Oil & Vinegar Salad Dressing - Basic Vinaigrette Recipe

By Danilo Alfaro, About.com

Basic Vinaigrette Recipe

This simple oil & vinegar salad dressing, which is also called a basic vinaigrette or basic French dressing, can be mixed up in a flash. It uses the standard 3:1 vinaigrette ratio, meaning 3 parts oil to 1 part vinegar.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
  • 1½ cups salad oil (see note)
  • ½ cup white wine vinegar
  • 1½ tsp Kosher salt
  • ½ tsp ground white pepper (or freshly ground black pepper)
Preparation:
Place all the ingredients in a blender and mix for about 10 seconds or until fully combined. Serve right away, as the oil and vinegar will begin to separate as soon as you stop mixing.

Makes 1 pint of dressing.

NOTE: Any oil labeled "vegetable oil" or "salad oil" is fine for this basic recipe. You can also use any light, neutral-flavored oil like safflower, canola or soybean oil.
