Hurricane Sandy and Food Safety

With the likelihood that Hurricane Sandy may affect a large part of the East Coast in the coming days, it's a good idea to start thinking about food safety.

Hurricanes and other weather-related emergencies can lead to power outages lasting anywhere from a few hours to several days, which in turn can cause the food stored in refrigerators and freezers to become unsafe.

There are a number of things you can do before a severe weather event to prepare for an extended power outage, and afterward, to avoid a case of food poisoning from contaminated food. Read about food safety before and after a hurricane.
