Winter Storms and Food Safety

If you're in an area that's affected by a severe winter storm, you could experience power outages lasting anywhere from a few hours to several days, which in turn can cause the food stored in refrigerators and freezers to become unsafe.

There are a number of things you can do before a severe weather event to prepare for an extended power outage, and afterward, to avoid a case of food poisoning from contaminated food. Read about food safety before and after a winter storm.
