Béchamel Sauce Recipe

Béchamel is a standard white sauce and one of the five "leading sauces" of classical cuisine. It's the starting point for other classic sauces such as the Crème sauce and the Mornay sauce.

For instance, the classic Crème sauce is made by adding hot cream to the béchamel, while the Mornay sauce is essentially a béchamel with grated Gruyère cheese added.

A traditional béchamel is flavored with onion, cloves and nutmeg. Here's a simple recipe for béchamel sauce.
